| Moish Sokal was first brought to my
attention by an older friend whose judgement I admired
and who took a great interest in my having set up Guggleton
for young artists, at least fifteen years ago. In those
days we were establishing ourselves with arts related
workshops, seminars and just a few exhibitions. We were
not ready for such a well established artist as Moish.
I filed away the information given by my friend retrieving
it from time to time and following the exhibitions he
regularly holds at the Malthouse Gallery in East Lambrook,
the Black Swan Gallery in Frome and the Meeting House
Arts Centre in Ilminster.
At the age of twenty Moish left Israel
and his family's beachside hometown near Haifa, where
his artistic parents had encouraged his talents, settling
in Sydney, Australia to study graphic art and design,
and worked for many years as a freelance graphic designer.
A passionate traveller, he began recording his visits
through the peoples and landscapes of those countries
in paintings which lead to exhibitions.
Since arriving in England in 1990 he has
held twenty five one-man exhibitions whose titles cover
Nomads, Crossing Worlds, Hidden Waters, Arabs and Jews,
Reflections, Desert to Surf among many others. Moish
has developed a large clientele with works now in collections
all over the world.
Moish Sokal and his wife Prue Biddle live
in Norton-sub-Hamdon where Somerset embraces them. For
five to six months of the year, Moish is on his travels
bringing east and west together in his paintings and
gleaning plenty of interesting notes for his annual
newsletter. His exhilarating sense of colour and powerful
skill with watercolours bring about highly desirable
paintings.
We are thrilled that this renowned artist
should be showing with us in Dorset at Guggleton Gallery.
Travelling with my Watercolours from Sunday 26th September
- Saturday 1st October 11am - 5pm each day. India, Australia,
Venice and back home in England are all recorded in
this new exhibition where we look forward to welcoming
you together with Porter Dodson, Solicitors and Advisers
who have so generously supported us.
